Emanuel Murant (December 22, 1622, Amsterdam – ca.1700, Leeuwarden), was a Dutch Golden Age painter.
According to Houbraken he was a pupil of Philips Wouwerman in Haarlem, where he learned to paint Italianate landscapes and specialized in village scenes and ruined farmhouses that were so exact, you could count all the bricks.[1] Houbraken also mentioned him travelling to France and other places for many years. Murant's brother David in Amsterdam had many of his paintings still in his possession that Houbraken saw when he was writing his book in the 1710s. He added that Murant's paintings had sold well in Leeuwarden.
According to the RKD he travelled through France and in 1670 he married Berberke Willems and settled in Leeuwarden, where he stayed.[2]
